You changed the course of my life, let's hope for the better…
We both know that I'm far from good at emotional sentiments, especially when talking in person… but I really just wanted to say how thankful I am for the energy and time you've put towards me (and other students, but I'm more important) for the last 3 years.

Some background context
Maybe this is too much information, but previous to coming to Mesa I've made two attempts on my life due to hopelessness towards my future and a string of personal failures (almost failing high school, dropping out of SAIC, quitting job after job). I came to Mesa as my "last chance", and fully intended to be "done" with life if I failed here. Initially the plan was to get my gen-eds out of the way then pursue a philosophy degree and transfer out. While doing that I needed to declare a temporary major, and graphic design seemed like an easy A…
It was that moment that changed my entire life direction.
Going from a household of loving parents, that praised anything I've made or done, to this scary bearded man telling me what's what was a punch in the face. Though it showed me just how big the chasm between my ability and what good design was and is. It dramatically shifted my focus from cosmic level apathy to a defined goal that can one day be within reach (still have a long way to go though).
You continuously showed me that I have a long way to go while simultaneously believing that I will get there. You were someone that saw all my shortcomings and still saw so much potential. That made it far more real than any blind faith put towards me from people who are culturally obligated to care about me.
You were a father figure I never had. As in i've never needed to "win" my father's approval.
THis was more of a stream of conciousness than well written, I just wanted to say thank you.
You're an amazing mentor, teacher, friend, despair-bringer, and hope-giver. Thanks for putting up with my dichotically quasi-arrogant smart-ass personality for these years. I see all the work you put into your students and family. You're a good human, and that's really only something I can say with certainty with very few people. The investment you've put into me will always be something I can never repay, though if I happen to become famous and rich (which we both know won't happen), I'll buy you something special. Like a door to your bathroom.
